Idle speed what it it suppost to be?

R.Geiger nailed it. When the engine is in "I'm happy now" mode, they will run at very low RPM's (no stats, I'm sure there are some stories out there). My 321 ci 2cyl. will idle down to 125 RPM and (haven't tried) probably do it all day. Enjoy !

Just remember that magic idle number of 400 is for an engine that runs perfect and all conditions are just right so if you can not get down to it do not worry about it it is just a magic wish for number and on a tractor that is 60 years old well

It idles VERY slow now....But must be worked down there very slowly.....Once down just ticks on...Giving throttle up works fine but coming back down is a little at a time...I'm hope to raise it to 400 and then it will come back down without the cajoling....Charlie

I've got a few old Fords. Many of them are workers. I don't use any of them at 400 rpms. Be happy and Njoy!

400-450 like said,
but the only time mine ever see it is when I am
going thru it and making everything right.
after that, I set it a little higher, not too much, so they don't run on.
In fact, being late Nov, I now give all my tractors a little boost in idle speed.
Don't want any stalling when it's freezing outside,
especially on my 6-volters! :D

How would you know without a proofmeter or tack, just nice and slow and stays running I think if you have to keep rpms up to keep it running you will know.
