drag link length

Forum Members,

Just returned from the old farm in "snow in the air" northern Minnesota. While there I was using my old version of a Four Wheeler- '47 2 N Ford to travel an old logging road. When I got to the end of a quarter mile jaunt suddenly I could only steer in one direction. Upon a complete check up I noticed the right drag link vertical threaded portion was hanging up on the front end and not allowing steering to the left. Seems the vertical threaded portion was a half inch longer than the left drag link. Is there a shorter version that should be ordered next time? Plan to razor blade the extra half inch off on my next trip to the north land. Any thoughts are welcome!

I do believe one is supposed to be longer than the other. Why would you cobble up something that was made right? I wouldn"t cut anything; get out your manual and READ about toe-in adjustment. Check kingpin and bushing first and replace if its been a long time. Next, how are the drag link boots? Last thing could be a steering box adjustment. My opinions

Tim did u get my email with the pics of the Budd hub?

hanging up on the bolt head that hold the radius arm on?
while there should be plenty of clearance, old stuff with mix and match parts, who knows.
I'd pop it off, put the nut on and grind off the excess
and then back the nut off to fix the threads.
One tractor I had, I did that and the radius arm
bolt head got a little grind too.
check that the steering arm hasn't been bent down and check your spindle housing bushings for slop.
here is a 46 to compare,
