9N Oil Filter

Hello all - changed my 9N"s oil and used a Fram C3P filter. When installing I noticed that the oil "ports" on the canister are on the side and bottom center. The filter fits snug against the pipe inside that the cap screws onto. The oil comes out of some holes in a ring at the very bottom. There is no way I can see that oil can get into the center of the filter and be filtered thru the paper. The old non-Fram filter had no rubber "grommets" on top and bottom center but still had no clearance for oil to get into center. Looks like oil comes into bottom of canister and just flows up the sides and out. What am I not understanding here? Thanks!

lows in on side, thru filter media, out thru about a sixteenth of an inch hole in the side of center pipe

Thanks very much! That explains it - I didn't notice the holes in the side of the tube because they were so small and the one facing me was plugged up. Cleared it out with a piece of wire. I appreciate the help!
