8N Hydraulic Cylinder Scratches (PIC)

Please tell me if this cylinder is OK. After cleaning I used a brake hone on it for 3-4 minutes. I don't know if this is good enough, if I should run the hone longer, if I should send it to a shop for honing, or is it too bad to save? Before disassembly when I looked in the inspection hole while it was running there was no fluid dripping out, I just lost lift almost immediately when the clutch was depressed.
Thanks for looking.

Something I have wondered about is, could you bore out one of these cylinders and put a sleeve in it. Maybe it"s just cheaper to buy a new cylinder??? I have read about doing that to old brake wheel cylinders, and thought it might work with one of these cylinders.????
It might be worth taking it to a machiine shop to see what they would say about honing it.
Good luck!!!

Mine was wayyyyyyy worse. The skirt had come off the piston and gouged some places. I honed for a good long while. There were a few spots still left but the hone had smoothed the edges. I put an NAA piston and seal in it and it works like a charm. It will stay up for about 3 hours which is fine with me. I don't use it a ton - it is the snow removal tractor and that is about it. If I used it all day every day it might wear that rubber ring out sooner, but I have bigger tractors for everyday use.

I always think that using a part that old is always better than using something made recently in the Republic of Who Knows Where.

obviously newer / less scratches is better... though I have certaintly buttoned ones up like that that I know are still working today.

One of my customers once had his lift cover cylinder bored and sleeved. Nice neat job, good as new. Hydraulic pressure got behind the sleeve and pushed it right out.
