Pumpkin gear removal

I'm trying to fix a lower lift arm loose pin problem on my 1951 8N. Trumpet casting came right off without a hitch.
Now to remove the pumpkin gear, it's just resting on the axel shaft and drive shaft gear right? It will just pull Straight out?
I'm thinking of putting a rope through it to hold it up. Should I mark something so I get the gear teeth matched up on re-assembly?
Do those cotter pins look factory? Or, has someone been in there before me? It just seems to me the factory would have done a neater job!

Just pull it out. Not that heavy. No timing needed. Yes the ring gear has been off/replaced or rivets sheared off. Oringal was riveted on.

It's a bit of a grunt but not all that bad.
I do like to see the wooden cribbing under there but I would make it wider. 2 blocks wide at least and stack them at right angles to each other. And I know the metal jack stand is just for balance but I wonder about it sitting directly in the dirt where the legs can sink down and get off level. A piece of 3/4" plywood under it would be a lot better.
I don't fool around when I have a tractor in the air. Good cribbing is cheap whan you consider the cost of that big chunk of iron falling while you are working on it.
