I had a car act like that years ago. I think condensation in the crank case migrated up into the disti. Gave the disti cap a spray of WD40 and wiped it out. Ran just fine. It was hard to see any condensation, so it probably doesn't take much.

Now, a front mount they are more isolated from the crankcase fumes.

Just something to think about. We had storms here yesterday so today I got out with the 8N to scrape the dirt roads.
After about 20 minutes it chugged to a stop like it was out of gas. I turned the valve to the emergency position and it wouldn't start. I sprayed in some starting fluid and it finally started. So I started home to put some gas in it. On the way it died again two more times.
The last time it died I was almost to it's parking spot. While turning off the gas valve I happened to check the wire on the solenoid. The wire was loose enough to jiggle by hand.
I tightened it up and put some gas into it and went back to work for two hours with no problems.
Brings to mind what the guys here keep jamming into peoples head. Clean, Bright and Tight. Bad connections cause problems.
