Pics of the 901-2 mower that came with the 8N

This is the mower that came with 8N I was working on last week.
I cleaned it up, sanded it down and gave it several coats of
Rustoleum Sun Rise red. Turned out Ok I think.
I used it today to mow down some of the weeds around the old
garden before I plow it under for the year.
It's missing the guard over the slip clutch and I'll need to make
some shields for the front opening but it worked quite well.
Two and a half weeks sure makes a big difference in the beans!

You made that mower look brand new. It looks well made and in good condition.....should last you a long long time.

Yeah, it doen"t take long for the beans to drop their leaves. I need to till up the ground soon if I am going to plant my garlic mid month. Been wet and raining again today so I don"t know. Just might have to eat my seed. LOL

Something tells me between that mower and tractor you painted you gored a big hog! Right? I have the exact same trailer as you. On your top link have you ever tried a chain? I find that the extra movement given by the chained top link gives a lot of stress on mower and tractor are relived. What is the crop growing behind your outfit. It looks like foxtail millet? Enjoy your new toys.LB Master of the Obvious

Royse,
Nice paint job. The gear box, slip clutch and complete design, are like a "Dunham" I had. I tore the gear box bottom bearing mount by a couple of errors, that you may want to consider.

1. I put toooo many HP on small HP rating of gearbox.
2. I allowed the slip clutch to set up, by parking it outside, and not checking it for free, each season.
3. I have since used ones with a 1/2 "shear bolt", that I feel are more "instanious" and more protective of weak gearboxes.

4. Only use with your lower HP "N"s or 600

We have a mower just like yours. My grandfather bought it new. My father still uses it occasionally to mow at his church behind our 6 cylinder Funk. Bottom seal in the gearbox started leaking years ago guess I need to fix it one day. For now I just pump some grease in it and add a little 90w when he uses it

I'll second what Charles K said. Make sure that slip clutch is still functional. This is true especially when you buy a used mower from someone.

When I finally decided to check mine, I ordered new clutch discs first. I'm sure glad I did that because it was totally frozen up with rust. It took a lot of work just to get it apart and after a lot of power wire brushing I finally got it back to being functional again.

It's not good for those things to sit out in the weather all winter long. That clutch needs to be covered with something even if you don't cover the whole mower.

Not sure what you mean with this question Lonnie.
I have tried a chain, agree that it relieves a lot of stress.
There was a swivel mount made for these that tried to do the same
thing, might be nice to find one day, but I only use it once in a while.
That based on how much I used my old Woods.

Mike, thanks! I think it turned out well.

Jerry, yes, I want to paint the tractor back to it's original red soon.
It won't happen this year, too many other projects and it's still
my go to tractor for anything requiring a PTO!

Charles and CaryC, thanks for the advise. Much appreciated!
I did take the slip clutch apart before painting to make sure it's not froze.
I should take it apart again now just to make sure.
Not much to it on this one, just a matter of a few minutes.

Jim, the back wheel in the book shows a hard rubber tire on the
outside of a steel wheel like this one.
I can't see any way to mount one on this wheel and it wouldn't
clear the wheel carrier anyway! I think it will outlast me! :)

Colin, paint it! Helps keep it from rusting even if it's not pretty.
That was my goal here. I want to use it and not let it rust.

Hey Royse, I was just wondering how the rustoleum sun rise red compares to the rustoleum safety red I painted the cultivator I sold you as far as being close to the original ford red color?

John B, here's a pic of the back blade I painted along with one
of the teeth from the cultivator.
As you can see, they're pretty close, but not exactly the same.
