What is norrmal on th 9N/2N

I have a 9n/2n that sems to have an 8N motor in it, newer radiator so I can"t tell what it was. On the left side in front of the trrans I have a shifter that shifts the PTO range from low to neutral to high in additon to the PTO lever under the seat? My 8N does not have this extra lever. Is this normal for the 9N? On the right side in front of the trans I have another shifter ehivh shifts from low speed to neutral to a higher speed. Wouldn"t a Sherman be behind the trans as this is in front. THere is a rototiller on this beast that is engaged and disengaed with a long rod to it. Anyone got any ideas what I have here? Thanks John Ayres

A Sherman mounts in front of the transmission and speeds up or slows down the tractor speed as well as the pto. Not good for a tiller

sherman and other trannies like hupp and and F&T are pre tranny.

there are post trannies like howards and everetts. the post trannies can change ground speed in respect to pto speed. the pre trannies change everything.

are you saying you have 2 controls up front of the tranny?

post some pics.

howards are the maker of the rotovator / tranny combo.. that's how you can do a tiller setup with an N

Pictures would be a big help. None of those levers you mentions were 'normal' (from the factory). However they can make a 9/2/8N more versatile.

I will try posting pics next week as I do not have access at the moment. If nothing else it is nice to be able to use the pto lift without having the implement have to spin or drive power to it as you can put it in neutral. I have not yet determined if the step down is 2 or three different speeds as it appears there is a side collar possibility I have not tried yet. Still seems to go a little fast for a tiller.

Here are three pictures of what I have . The serial number will require work as I can't see anything without steel wool. The lever on the right appears to be a Howard trans as it does have a rototiller attached to it. Anyone know what the lever on the left for the PTO is as it is pre tranny? I know it has two speeds for the PTO with nuetral in the middle however not clear what it might be from Smihts site. Also this tractor is painted red with 9/2N rear wheels/pedals however from the oval beams can we rule out 9N?

(quoted from post at 09:14:31 10/08/13) There is nothing I can find on the lever for the left side there.
Left side is the very first picture on the page.
Sherman step-up, same handle as your picture.
Can't really rule out 9N from the oval radius rods, they can be swapped.
Not much difference in 9N/2N, you can check the serial number,
but engines can be swapped too.
Date codes on the castings will tell you if you really want to know for sure.
