I recently disconnected battery cable to recharge battery on my '49 8N. after charging, when I connect the cables, the starter is turning...engine does not start, but the starter will continue to turn until I disconnect the battery cable. Any ideas ???

Sounds like the solenoid contacts welded together from low voltage before you charged the battery. Sometimes a light tap on the solenoid will break the contacts loose.

welded solenoid contacts are my bet too.. however make sur ethe lil wire fromt he thumb switch didn't get chaffed and is grounding out during the cable swapping.. it will make the starter spin with bat hooked up.. if it is grounded..
