Remember, I wasn't doing a restoration here, just taking a

non-runner and making it work good and look decent.

I know the color scheme is not quite right, but I like the touches of black.

The paint is 100% Rustoleum, including the primer.

I didn't spend hardly any time on the sheet metal either.

Figured I'd leave that for the next guy. :)

Started on it last Wednesday, finished up last night, so eight
days mostly tinkering after work. Didn't work on it Sunday at all.

It is running in the last three pictures, glad to see no smoke!

Boss lady had to go for a spin. She did an awful lot of the cleaning
and scrubbing while I was at work. :)

Glad to hear it arrived! Sorry to hear about the computer.

Especially the pictures!

Might get that carb together this week.

If no one forces me to drag another project home!

Sounds like UD and I paint them about the same way.

I did take off most of the old paint. Had to because it was flaking.

The new paint would just flake off with the old if painted over.

The pressure washer takes off a lot of it, but not all.

As far as parts, I take off everything I don't want painted red.
Wiring, starter radiator, distributor, belts, hoses etc.

Then I tape the holes shut if paint would hurt them.

I also remove the air breather, battery box, oil filter, etc so I can
paint behind and under them. I unhooked the 3pt links at the
lift arms so I could lay them down and paint the insides easily.

Have to be careful putting it all back so you don't scratch the new paint.

As far as the spark plugs, I have an old set that came in a parts
tractor I bought. I saved them and stick them in the head to paint.

Can't mix 'em up, they're all red! LOL

I've seen a lot of tractors that had everything painted.

Hoses, belts even the battery on a few.
As a buyer I walk away from them and I suspect many
others would too, so it pays to do at least decent job.

Another quick ? We have on that is pretty clean and all sheet metal off that we had running and now it's got no spark after sitting outside for a few months uncovered, which we're gonna address and fix tomorrow. Did you take any old paint off or anything? We plan to paint this one and put her up for sale. What all do I need to remove (sheet metal is already off) to paint. I'd assume spark plugs and the dizzy and starter and radiator? How did you plug up the holes? We are going to use a paint gun and already have the paint. If you wanna shoot me an email with some pointers that would be wonderful!

It wont hurt to leave the spark plugs in or out.
If you leave them in tape off the tops so your wires make good contact.
When I paint a tractor I like to remove things like wires, hoses, fan belt, distributer, etc.
I hate seeing those items all painted up.
To prep a tractor I usually pressure wash it real good. Then I use a brush and liquid Tide to degrease it. Brush it on, let it sit for half an hour and then pressure wash it off.
Just before painting I will use a gallon of lacquor thinner in a pump type garden sprayer. Catch it in a plastic trough and use it again.
Lacquor thinner really degreases well and will soften the old paint somewhat and make the new paint bond real well.
I usually just spot prime the chassis as needed with a rattle can. Then shoot a decent paint with a hardener. I used to buy the Restoration series from Valspar. But now the tree huggers have caused that to be unavailable. So I use the Valspar tractor and equip paint with hardener now.

Thanks for rubbing my nose in it after my little pep talk Royse. Can I barrow your magic wand? Great Job for a quick money maker. On my 8Ns I have done I paint stuff like the starter, gen. black manifold black or silver exhaust and muf it sets it off. Very nice job. I couldn't live without taking and fixing the tin though. But that's me. Ya should not have any trouble selling it.Master of the obvious LB

I'm sure it wouldn't go that quick if I were to do a really good job.

This one was already all tore apart, so half the battle was done.
I'm guessing Joan won't be too interested in doing another one soon.

But I'll try to talk her into it. ;)

I'm afraid it will have to go Jerry.

I just don't have enough space to keep it unless I sell the F20.

I'm watching the hydraulics out the window, they've been
holding that blade up for the last two hours. Not bad at all.

Maybe I should bring it over to you guys, they seem to bring more over there!

I agree. This came as a package. I wanted that 901 mower.

If I break even on this tractor and keep the mower, I'll be happy.

I'll post it on CL for higher than I need and hope for the best.

I could post it the classifieds here too I guess, I just don't think
there are many YT member Ford "N" guys in my immediate area.

The tire that is NOT facing the conventional way will pack more dirt in the lugs and provide more push, so I have been told.

They were that way when I got it and they just happen to be on in such
a way that I would need to remove and remount a tire from the rim to fix it.

One rim needs to be replaced. When that happens, the tire can get fixed. :)
