8n tractor chains

Thought I'd posted this earlier, but didn't go thru, anyhow, I'm wondering what to ask for a set of chains in good condition. Can't remember what I paid 36 years ago. Hardly used them atall.

I see them around here from $75 to $125 in fair shape.

I picked up a pair in like new condition for $40 this summer.
but they are the ladder type, not the X ones.

All depends on location, looks like you might be in Illinois?
In Michigan they're selling between $75 and $125 for ladder chains.
More for X patterns.

I got a set of ladder chains for one of my 8ns years ago, but there are near worthless as most of the Xchains hide down in the tire lugs. We do have a set of double rings on the 861 that work much better.

ya I really screwed up, and sold my 8n X chains, thinking the ladder chains would be fine! going to regret that this winter!
has anyone modified the ladders to work better?

I've never had too much trouble with my ladder chains.
I did add some rings to the center of one set for a guy.
I just used cold shunts. If that's how they're spelled.
Ladder chains also work quite well on turf tires.
As long as you don't mind the ride!

usually run about $100 here
You can find/buy them at $50 or so if you are patient.

for the ladder chain questions,
if you can find them cheap, put on more than one set.
On my snow plow tractor, I have 3 sets on the filled tires,
2 ladders and a ring set.
adds a lot of weight too.
yes, they were hard to get on, but I never get stuck in snow.
I have another set of tires that I swap on
in summer. Now that those chains are on, I'm never gonna take em off!
