right sector on my 8n going bad [early model] turns real hard right Now can I replace the right side without taking the steering box off and a part , can I take the 4 bolts out and pull it out then replace if so is there a trick to doing it thanks cdv

i agree.. most likely a thrst bearing issue.

don't wimp out.. pullthe box down. thay are not too hard to fix.

the early boxes are lessadjustable than the late ones.. but still rebuildable..

Soundguy is right not that hard to do get an FO-4 manual and lots of grease rags it's messy. I used a pressure washer to blow most of the grease out.

I've never torn one apart and ONLY found a bad sector gear.

They have almost always needed someting else.. and MOST of the time.. it was NOT a sector at all.. :)

I was thinking sector because when I jack it of the ground it steered so nice and smooth

and yet.. a thrust bearing would do that too. and so would a worn spindle bushing.

your diagnostic tests are incomplete to draw a comclusion.

does the steering wheel , when turned lock to lock, rise from or fall into the column?

I am with Soundguy, your test could be incomplete, could be as simple as low front tire pressure, bad tie rod ends (drag links) or need grease.
