I haven't changed the oil in a car in over a decade. It wasn't the cost or the time for me, it was being stuck with the drain oil. It's hard to find anyone that will take it anymore. The few recycling tanks around me were removed because of people discarding toxic waste there. I've got a couple of 5 gallon pails full from tractors and such. How do you guys dispose of it?

In my area Autozone and Advance Auto both take it as does the local recycling center.

I usually use mine myself when I burn brush piles.

Do whatever you want as individuals, it is your vehicle & your money, just don't come up with "justifications" for the rest of us. You are the person needing justification. My personal justification is that I have welded too many new threaded bungs into screwed up oil pans (belonging to others) to let anyone else work on my vehicles. When I drive away from the dealer, he will not see me again until I'm ready to buy another. It has worked for me for 53 years, since my first new car.

My autozone takes my old oil. I have given it to a local oil change place before. Getting rid of the old oil is not a problem, remembering not to let it stack up is my biggest issue.

I pick up a 5 quart bottle of one of the leading brands of synthetic from walmart for about 22$ when I catch a sale. So than I buy 2-3 containers. My BMW takes 7 with a filter change. I never trusted anyone to do oil changes on any of my cars. I keep a couple of old 5 gallon buckets around a fill them up with the old stuff. Walmart takes up to 5 gallons a day. I drop off about 20-25 gallons a year.

County recycling center - usually pump out the 25 gallon oil drain I collect it in into 4 x 5 gallon buckets and haul them along with any other recycling items. If I had a waste oil furnace .....

I've returned plenty directly to Mother Earth but large scale recycling is a water supply friendly and cost effective way to get it back in the pipeline a little quicker

Added to what they along with the DIA, CIA and others already know about me (40 years of security clearances) I doubt it will swing the scales much
