The 3 point lift arms go up but won't go back down. I removed the right inspection cover and moved the linkage and got the lift to go back down, but i'm wondering what part might be going bad? any suggestions? thanks mike

so.. what's this on.. sherman tank? Boeing 747?

i'm guessing 9-2-8n by the sound.. but the 8n uses a different control mechanism than the 9n/2n.. so some advice will be different. I'd rather not type in the entire deal and then you tell me it's the other machine, since i type on a mobile device.

When you reaced in.. if you were able to move a control fork or rod and rocker to get lift arm movement.. it sound slike sticky control valve and dirty oil.. what decade was the sump last cleaned and oil changed?

Sorry it"s a 47 2N, The oil was changed last year the pump was pulled out at that time the inside of the case cleaned out.The control lever goes up and down normally but the lift arms stay up. it doesn"t do this all the time, seems to happen after it"s set a while. Thanks mike

I can tell you that the control valve in those pumps originally had an almost mirror finish to them. If there has been water in the hydraulic oil and pitted the control valve, even the smallest pitting will cause it to stick. Do not sand the control valve as that will only make it worse, but sometimes you can take some metal polish and polish up old control valves but it really isn't worth it since you can get a new valve for $20.00.
