Majic tractor paint (alkyd enamel) questions

Hello.

I'm painting a car with Majic gloss black. I'm using their hardener and reducer (I tried mineral spirits and it left the finish cloudy). The questions I have are:

1. How long should I wait before color sanding and buffing? 1 week, 2 weeks, a month?

2. Will adding Japan drier harm the finish or soften it or ???? Will it speed the dry time enough to worry about it? Will it be compatible with the hardener?

3. Will wet look hardener make the paint shinier or deeper looking than the Majic hardener, or will I just be wasting money? If I were to use this type of hardener, what brand and where can I get it? Do NAPA or Oreilly carry it?

Thanks!

if you want to do some testing, grab a can of quik cure hardner for nason paints ( thier syn single stage enamil line ).

any time you have a question about hardner compatibility.. you can mix some hardener and reducer in a glas jar and then mix in your other questionable adds and look for clumping or clouding.

I know the nason syn single stage enamil does not like MS either.. doesn't care a whole lot for naptha either.. likes their medium reducer.

the magic may play nicer with naptha.

I've painted stuff using the quick cure hardnerr and had finger-non tacky in 15 to 30 minutes.

I've used the gloss black and their hardener, and it came out with a killer gloss. I can't imagine anything on a tractor needing a better shine. I used acetone to thin. I really liked the Valspar paint better than the Majic, but the black amazed me.

I've used the Valspar for quiet a few years with good results. Used the Majic for the first time a few months ago and it will be my last. Not happy with the results at all. Gloss is okay but even with the harder it took 48 hours before you could touch it. Bought one rattle can the same color do some small parts and it took 3 days for it to dry enough to be handled Wish I could still get the Valspar at TSC
