Best Ignition switch?

I've heard comments here about how bad currently available ignition switches are. Are there any good ones? Would a marine one be better than a tractor one? The tractor ones I see all seem to be offshore, but then maybe TSC isn't the best place to look.

BTW, these switches can do weird things. The existing one on my 8n is a universal one, with an accessory position, wired for some unknown reason so there are two On positions with OFF in the center. If I put it in either ON position and try to start it, and it doesn't fire ( which is often won't), switching it to the other ON position will always get it to fire. And once it fires it will run in either ON position. I attribute this to high, and every changing, resistance in the switch, so it is acting as a 2nd (or is it 3rd?) resistor.

make sure the PO didn't wire one 'on' with no ressitor, and the other with a resistor.

on the other hand. may be oxides ont he contacts and just running thru them clenas them up.

to answer your question.. a grease potted or marine or milspec switch will be of higher quality than the non weatherproof variety.

switch is a switch. tractor don't know or care what actuates the switch.

could be a complex wrist computer , blue tooth activated relay or a knife switch... all the tractor cares about is if electrons flow....

looking at low cost switches, I've found the push-pull
ones designed for lights are usually a little heavier, amp-wise, and some have built-in fuses.
In a need to shut it down fast situation, they are quick, hit em, slap em, kick em, whatever.
I got used to that style on Farmalls, and like them.
