Front axle pin

I am working on my NAA and have a couple of questions about the front axle pin. Is he hole in the pivot supposed to be threaded to accept the bolt that holds the pin in place? mine is stripped and it doesn"t seem that there is room for a nut on the backside because of the clearance with the axle. Should I drill the holes bigger and re-tap? what is the advantage of the two piece threaded axle pin that I see for sale? What is the purpose of the front and back pin spacers that are sold? isn"t the axle supposed to float forward and aft on the pin? Thanks for the advise

The axle pin on the NAA is threaded on one end and screws into the axle support. It is then retained with a locking ring bolted to the front of the support that prevents the axle pin from unscrewing. I'm assuming that is what you are calling the two piece pin. The one piece pins were only used on the N-series. If the threads in the bolt hole for the locking ring are stripped I'd repair them with a thread repair insert. The NAA axle does not float fore and aft - that design was used on the 9N and 2N and ended with the 8N.

My NAA has a one piece, non threaded pin. nothing threaded on the axle support. the axle does slide forward and aft when the radius rods are adjusted according to front wheel spacing.

After checking the parts manual I stand corrected. The NAA used a different axle support but the same pin and spacer setup as the 8N. The threaded pin wasn't introduced until the Hundred series.

Looks like you need a replacement pin (NAA-3126A) and bushing (2N-3039). The NAA used spacers like the 8N but unlike the 8N they were all the thinner (.090) 8N-3027 spacers and were placed front and rear as required - roughly three needed according to the parts catalog. The radius rods were attached to the center axle section just like the 8N and did not move when the spacing was adjusted. If the radius rods are not attached to the center axle the tractor is likely farmerized using 9N/2N parts. I'm sure Don B would know exactly what combinations might have been used.
