'45 2N with Sherman done

This is a '45 with Sherman step down. I pretty much went from head to toe, with an adjustment, clean/paint, replaced what was needed with good used or new parts. The rear wheels and 13.6 tires were on an 8N, but made it way too fast. They work just fine on here. Not a restoration, but should make someone a good plow tractor and conversation piece. I was going to keep it, but found a good deal on a 600. That's my keeper til something better pops up.

Thanks. Didn't you just finish one of these? It looked nice.I looked for the thread, but I guess it was a few pages back. From what I can tell this one has low range and regular range. I't slower than my others in low, and the same in the other range. It almost seems faster, but I've never lined them up side by side to see. I can't get it to pull out like they're supposed to to go to direct drive, so i"m assuming it's just a step down.

Here's a couple more pics. It was crashed in the front. I had to cut the bumper apart to fix,it was so bad The hood ,ears and grill were all welded together an beat up/rusty. I straightened it out fairly well and left the ears and grill welded together. The hood unbolts from them normally now, and the ears and grill can be changed later if the new owner wants. I had to do the hood twice. Before the paint dried the first time, it fell and put a big dent in the front, then rolled on it's top, covering it in dirt. I left a few waves here and there on the fenders, but it will work most likely, unless someone buys it to restore. Had a bondo crack in one front corner of the hood after I got it all bolted together, and had to kind of fix that.I also wish I had pulled the top of the grill out more, but oh well. I really built it to work though. It starts, runs and drives great now. Everything that used to flop, clunk and leak, now are quiet and tight and dry.I ran it up and down the road to the neighbor's and back and got a good coat of dust on it. He has a '40 model and boxes of new parts going to waste. I wanted to inspire him a little. I'll work this one an hour or three, then clean it up and put on a coat of wax before I sell it.

Looks like you have quite a few projects like I do!
Is that a Propane Super M (MTA) I see back there?

Propane M you see there. It's a '47. I'd trade it for a ratty but complete Henry product in the blink of an eye. It runs well, but starts hard and only with gasoline primer. I'm guessing it's probably only getting vapors. I also have to rebuild the water pump, or change the impeller. runs hot, poor circulation, even without the thermostat. Doesn't leak anywhere though, so I'm hoping for just an impellere swap. There's a few more that aren't in the pics too, and more to come as these slowly get refurbed and sold. When this 2N goes, the plan is to pick up a Funk and/or a 650.

By the looks of the shifter it's a step up only Sherman. Have one in my serial # 849 and a couple more of them on the shelf. I could be wrong but I've never seen a step down only Sherman. That would be one really low geared tractor !! Nice looking 2n I even like the big tires. I have a 45 that I'm hope to repaint this winter and install either one of the overdrive Sherman's or the Hupp overdrive I have

Yes I just sent photos to the site as everybody likes a picture or 2 as I do too. I bought it because I wanted a H/L for my 8N but found out the hard way they made a H/L and a High. Well I was stuck with just high so fixed it up and still want a H/L. I think FLOLDFORD is right they were all High or H/L.

Sherman Aux transmissions came in Step Down, Step Up, and Step Up/Step Down.

Or if it makes it any clearer Low, High, and High/Low.

Yup,with the step up being the most common, step down being the rarest, and the combo the most desirable.

My dad has a Step Up with Cable Shift in his 8N. It is basically a paperweight, but cool to have none-the-less.

It may have been used once. He never needs to take it on-road.

2 of my tractors got Sherman step-down & 1 of them
has a Howard and another tractor has a Sherman
step -up, easy way to check which it is , engage
PTO and watch the speed it goes around.

In low on a step down , you can almost count the splines on the pto shaft with it running.

8Ns are already fast, especially in reverse. With a step up on them, you should almost be able to run with traffic on highways.

Tractor looks good Arnold.
Should be a good worker for someone.
I like to see an alternator on em - more dependable.
As for the 640, nice upgrade.
Tough to find better unless you get a 3 cylinder Ford.
I often wondered what was Ford thinking when they put that reverse gear in the 8Ns.
