Hello guys, I looked at a 9n ford today that caught on fire due to a fuel line that was touching the exhaust manifold and burned a lot of pasture too, The owner said the engine had just been rebuilt. He was going to send it to the scrap yard. I looked at it because I have a 8n that needs a motor. Will the 9n engine fit the 8n?I do not know how much damage was done to the engine when it was on fire , but it looked like it was scorched good. The transaxle look like was not burned at all. Is this engine worth saving? The engine oil looked ok. The frt tires was burned off, but the rear tires still had air with one new wheel.

9N, 2N and 8N engine will bolt up to any of them and work just fine. Big thing on one that has burned is things when hot like to crack and gasket like to go bye bye etc. If the price it right it maybe worth the gamble.
So now the question since you say your in MO where you at?? I am at the Lake of the Ozarks

Old,I live around the Wentzville area and the person that has the 9n is only asking scrap price. I guess you were getting lots of rain recently hope your staying dry. I don't like to see tractors go to the scrap yards if it has a good axle and trans. Larry

At scrap price I"d grab it..What is scrap price where you are?ast time I checked a few weeks ago it was only $11.00/hd here--of course they give different prices for short iron and different prices for whatever else they want to call it..Not sure what they would call a tractor with all fluids drained...

Ya I have 30 plus tractors here . Many run or could be made run pretty easy and then I have a good number of parts tractor that sit in the fence row. I would prefer one to sit in the fence row then go to China to be sent back some day as bullets like Japan did in 1941

That could very well happen in the not to distant future. They (China) have cities that have no one living there. Their bubble is about to burst like ours did, only worse.

(quoted from post at 19:42:34 08/12/13) Tom,scrap price here is $185 a ton. What does a 9n weigh?

$185? A month ago I got $210- and I'm just across the river in Illinois. Has it dropped that fast, or are you getting lowballed?

Ya I agree but the sad thing is many people do not see the light at the end of the tunnel which is not a good light but a big bang light. Another good reason to collect fire arms in my book

if you can get it for 100 or maybee 2.. I would.

if the engine still has water and oil in it. I'd change the water pump and head gasket.. probably tyhr pan gasket and go.. the rear of the tractor can be parted.. sounds like it was out of the fire.

Thanks for all the feedback. I found out today that the tractor did get sent to the scrap yard, I guess he was in a hurry to get his $280. Buttttt,............ I guess my luck held out. I found a 2n that had just been rebuilt and for some reason it had electrical issues and the were tired of messing with it and got it for a good price $500, has real good rubber on the rear.
