Purchased a grease gun from Walmart a few years ago. The plunger that is supposed to force the grease up toward the pump end doesn't fit into the paper grease tube. So, I have a lathe and decide to turn a replacement for the plastic piston that backs the rubber piston seal. Made one up of aluminum a bit smaller.
The rubber seal still doesn't work its way into the paper tube. In fact it was stuck to the metal tube till I pulled really hard. It makes me think of years ago when IIRC some grease guns held just grease before the paper cartridges were around.
I think the grease has swollen the rubber. Since I had used it with the paper tube cartridge before.
I think I will cut the cartridge open and slather just the grease into the gun, old school, unless someone has a better idea.
