Was trying to crank my 8n tractor when the starter, started to
rattle pulled it and the washer and pin at the end were gone
will it hurt for them to stay in there or should I get them out?
Please help. Help wanted in Waco.

You can fish through the starter hole for them with a magnet on a piece of wire or string. I did that on our Massey 35 about 10 years ago and it was not too hard, though it took a bit of time. The pinion gear had shattered so I was fishing out bits of it.

Sandlin.........you mean you didn't know the front tranny case is Ford's spare starter parts storage??? Leave'm alone; ain't gonna hurt 'nuttin' ........rattlin' Dell

Hey Dell! Remember the pics of a great whopping hole in the bell housing caused by parts left in, a bump was hit and the flywheel flung them out ? Generally good advice but.... You comin' this way or not (ML crisis) ? b

a magnet grabber will likely get them.. or a 3 jaw flexi grabber. or can lift stering box.

many have flaoters with no issue.

in real unlucky circumstances some pieces CAN get in the flywheel and cause issues.

Fish out the broken parts. Makes no sense to leave them in there bouncing around..Had a pic of a totally destroyed bell housing because of loose parts getting in the ring gear..Can"t find it right now.Go Fish...

I've got a hole in the bell housing of the tractor I'm working on now. That may explain how it got there. Guess it was fixed, what ever it was, before I got it.

How's your luck?

Thanks Dollar-had that pic stored somewhere but couldn't find it a few days ago--saved it again--Thanks

Glad to do it Tom - Some folks are okay with leaving stray parts floating around inside the bell housing. It's definitely a roll of the dice and I've never been courageous enough to find out if it really is okay to store spare parts there.

Supports the picture/1000 words adage.

Got a stuck clutch? looks easy to un stick it
this way.
