NAA exhaust note

I have the ubiquitous (cheap) replacement muffler and wonder
if the exhaust note under load (best described as tinny) would
be improved with one of the more expensive fomoco logo
mufflers? Or is this exhaust note characteristic of the 1-2-4-3
firing order?

I'd chock it up to a cheap, thin walled design.

Throw some straight pipes on it and you won't hear anything

LOL that's an idea! I would guess that even the el-cheapo
provides a minor degree of flame arresting- don't want to set
half of Christian Co on fire:)

Your right on that one. Anything's better than nothing.

I got a vertical exhaust for my 8N at Orschlens, like farm and fleet, and was pleasantly surprised.

IF it ain't broke, I wouldn't fix it. But that's just me.

Christian CO as in Missouri??? On most of my tractors I use a straight exhaust but with a twist. I weld old water pipe and do a turn down on the end so no problem with water and can then aim it away from me so they sound good and no problems with other things

had a NAA with the horizontal tailpipe, with a totally burnt out muffler at the engine. muffler casing was still good.
took a look at the rusted clamps, brackets, etc
nope, ain't touching it.
cut the tailpipe under the floorboard and added another muffler (auto) there . put a pipe and turn down on to reach the rear hanger.
really quiet then.
(course I could now hear all the noises the tired old engine was making :D )

there is a difference in a cheap non baffeled muffler ( stanley ) and something like a donaldson...

I have used both.

depends on budget at the time.

I wear er plugs.. so neither bother me... including straight pipe..

cnh carries donaldson i believe.

not sure about this site.. but check.

also.. I see them on ebay.

lastly.. hit the donaldson site. and under their exhaust products.. there are 'locate dealer ' links.

i see donaldson is into everything. even defense contracts..
