Haven't had to recently, but yes, they do just pry out.
I start working them with a flat screwdriver around the entire lip. If you can't get get behind it, I switch to needle nose vice grips and work my way around.
Usually they are pretty rusted in place. They are not necessarily "freeze" plugs.
