snap ring on pto shaft housing

I need the experts help again. I know has to be a easier way to take the snap ring off the house of the pto shaft. I have a small leak needing to replace the pto seal. it has a internal snap ring.

One end is easier than the other to get an awl or small screwdriver in, and just work it off. No secrets that I know of, just persistance.

very small screwdriver. work it in and then work the ring out and around.. can use another tool like another screwdriver or needle nose to help.. but small screwdriver is all i've ever used to chase them out.
