Linkage problem on lift ?

Soundguy, we pulled inspection plate, the problem is the long control rod isnt moving enough to move the valves all the way in and out.
So i will have to remove the top part, and what do i look for once removed ?
Acts like too much play in the long rod. I dont have a manual handy either.

Found a problem like that on an 8N a guy has me working on. I found I could move the linkage by hand and the 3 point would work just fine but not with the control handle. Pulled the top cover and found that the linkage arm is bent and also appears some one tried top heat it up to bend it straight and it has re-bent I have a spare cover so I will be rebuilding it and installing it instead of his old cover. I am also doing all new gaskets in the pump and a new relief valve and an NAA type cylinder piston

I am having the same thing. Narrowed it down to the spring that goes from the cylinder to the "knee" on the fork linkage. Finding one that works like the original is the thing. I haven't found one that works as well. I got one from the local hardware store and it has a little to much tension. Takes alot to overcome the spring tension. The old one just had no tension at all anymore.

Old, doesn't the lift control arm supposed to be straight ? i have seen them banana shaped and heated and straightened.
Mine is straight so my problem is somewhere in the lever assembly.
i can also move the intake and exhaust valves by hand and it works good but not by the touch control lever.

well, i thought it was really straight but i cant see a lick anymore.
control arm is arched but not banana like ive seen in some pics.
Question - how much from straight will it cause problems, and ive removed lower nut and removed piston housing but still cant remove it.
Tips appreciated

Yep lift control arm should be straight as an arrow and all it takes is a little bend to make it not work right. Of course weak springs etc add to things
