OT 2000 Buick

Have a 2000 Buick La Sabre with viberation from 45 to 55 mph. Tires have been checked and balanced, hasn't solved the problem. Mechanic says possibly the inner CV joint. Has anybody replaced one of these? What does it cost? Thanks for your input.

IF it is your inner CV joint you should replace the whole axle assembly. These usually cost about $125-150. They can be checked visually by jacking the car up and inspecting the rubber boots and then giving each end of the axle a good hard shake. Not a foolproof method but should give you some idea of condition. If it is bad enough to cause vibration, it should show a bit of movement when you grab the axle and try to move it back and forth. If no movement and the boots are intact, check other things, like worn struts.

Worn inner CV joints, when worn, are usually load sensitive which means they can vibrate, but it's usually not noticable until you accelerate. They don't usually vibrate on decel or coasting. Vibrations at that speed are usually tire related and due to excessive tire/wheel runout. Did he rotate the tire front to rear to see if the vibration moved. Rear vibrations can be felt in the seat, front vibrations in the steering wheel.

Wheel bearings can resonate like that. Take it up to 45 and then gently weave left to right in your lane. If it is the bearing it will change slightly when the load is switched as you swerve.

i have a 1995 buick lesabre i put cheap wheel bearing on they were junk in 4 monthes . i do not a beleaver in all parts from auto zonev are junk but buy a name brand wheel bearing if it needs it temken or other iam cheap. the car bolts that hold unibody to frame rot out to. and steering and whole front of car drops out my wife was driving it .

I have only seen it one time on a GM,,, see it allot on Chrysler's when accelerating...

A good test for a bad CV axle is to accelerate hard it will amplify the issue,,, I find on/off ramps (4 leaf clover styles were you are in a hard turn) to be the best place to test them...

Your Mechanic can price it for ya...
