We got an 8n our fatherinlaw had, the block is a 49 I think. It has the sidemount dist. he changed from a frontmount.
Hes passed on so no info what he did.
Block don't have timing hole at flywheel area.
Since this block is cracked bad,we found a frontmount block and wandering what all is done in changeover ?

How did he mount the generator? Front-mount distributor engine generators are on the RH side, side mount distributor engine have a generator mounting area added to the LEFT HAND side.

That is the difference in the BLOCK. The other differences are camshaft and front timing cover, and, of course, distributor.

So, if you have a side-mount now, on your front mount block, swapping a true side-mount block in it's place should present NO problems.

Bob, the engine on my tractor ,is originally a frontmount and fatherinlaw changed it to a sidemount. Sitting in the seat the alternator is on left side, he made a mount for it.
the block I can get is a frontmount, so shouldn't be any problem just switching everything over on it.
