just ordered new 6-volt generator for 1945 ford 2n
front mount distributor it has only 1 mounting ear
on it wonder if it will hold it tight enough ?

I would like to see a picture of that. Here's what it should look like.

there on e-bay under ford 2n generator it looks like that but don't have small bracket like the one on back of photo just has the big mount on it
thanks

use it like that and you will end up with a generator with NO brackets (hear the cast iron break?)

(quoted from post at 16:52:53 06/30/13) Ford V8 used just a single bracket 32 to 48.He may have gotten a V8 generator.
t was a very different bracket that he pictures

(quoted from post at 16:49:52 06/30/13) yesterday's tractor also sells them with 1 ear on it has anyone mounted one or used one like that ?
ince the bracket bolts on with 2 bolts, it is assumed that the buyer will use his old bracket.

techie........would you believe ALL the weight and forces are concentrated on the FRONT casting of the genny. NO NEED to support the back end of the 2N 6-volt genny.

Just remember to "polarize" the 2-terminal roundcan cut-off at the front of the steering column under the battery tray. Just "arc-spark" the 2-terminals together, engine OFF. I use a pair of pliers handles, but you can use bailin'warr iff'n you want. You can "re-polarize" as many times as it takes to feel warm'n'fuzzy ...er... charged.

HOWSOMEVERS: remember YOU are the voltage regulator to the 1-terminal 3rd-brush on the END casting of 11-amp 2N-genny. Adjust the 3rd brush for about 3-4 amps charge (+) on the dash panel ammeter at about 1/3-throttle. Yeah, that means some walkin'round stuff. Normally, ya don't haffta do nuttin after the original 3rd-brush setting ...unless... you have dealer installed OPTIONAL headlites. It should be intuitively obvious that when you turn yer headlites ON, ya better re-adjust the 3rd-brush for more charge ...or... yer gonna KILL yer battery. ...and... conversely re-adjust yer 3rd-brush when you turn yer headlites OFF ...or... you will BOIL the acid out and warp the lead plated and haffta buy a NEW BATTERY.

Unfortunately, all this is automatic in yer 12V Belchfire-V8 and all you ever see is the idiot lite on the dash iff'n sumptin' is wrong. ........electrical Dell

ure, "all knowing Dell"..Ford used the bracket, drilled & tapped two holes, & bolts , just for $h!ts & grins, or maybe just to waste Henry's money? Are you going to find him another front casting when his breaks? Get back to your sheep...you "know" them better.

Why waste your hard earned money on a 'new' Chinese made generator when all you need to do is take your existing one to a starter/alternator shop and let them rebuild it. Don't have the original? I'd buy one on fleabay, and then get it rebuilt -still cheaper than teh new junk models out there and you end up with a much better quality part. There should be two mounting brackets on the Ford N generator. One is the front end plate where the armature shaft comes out and the pulley installs to. The other is bolted to the barrel itself. Now the flawed design in the early Ford generator mounting method using only the mounting pivot bolt to hold in place was replaced with the 2N-10000 unit which had the two 1/4-28 tapped holes on the barrel which held a small bracket and the tensioning bracket. A third piece was bolted to the nearest head stud to receive the spring-loaded bolt/tensioning rod. This kept the tension of your generator at a constant so it didn't loosen up and cause slack in the belt which then would fail to charge correctly. Ask any old time farmer who used the early 9Ns and 2Ns. They would have to stop the tractor every few hours to check the generator tension and retighten the pivot bolt otherwise by the end of the day they'd be stuck in teh field with a dead battery. Dealers sold a kit for the earlier 9N generators that had the tensioning bracket and a band to fit around the barrel as those barrels were a smaller diameter and did not have two tapped holes. Just my opinion, but I'd do a rebuild on the original rather than buying 'new'.

I just put one on my 2n, original was long time gone and it had an old 6v car gen on it. seems to work fine with one bolt, and charges well. only got a few hours on it so time will tell if it lasts. I gotta build the rear bracket one of these days, lol
