51 8n sidemount 6 volt. Ol girl fouled the points out the other day, I removed them, dressed the put them back set them on 25, put it all back together cranked her up and bushhoged for about an hour, quit on me again, thought maybe the switch, tried hot wiring to no avail. Today pops dressed the points once again and she started back up, pops forgot to turn the gas on and she died, wouldn't start back, checke for fire and its there. Weird thing is now when you spin it over it back fires and will not start, i've never seen this before. I don't think its tryin to start because it doesn't kick the bendix out. Any insight will be appreciated

Its where? At each plug? Is it good spark or weak yellow spark?
I think I would change the points since they're obviously fouling.
New spark plugs may be in order as well.
 
Elvin, You should check the fuel flow remove the 1/8" plug at the bottom of the carb and check your fuel flow through the carb.
 
constant fireing thru carb or muffler?

check for stuck valves. thumb test will do.

are you using clean tools to gat the points. constant buring of poitns can be from dirty tools, too small a gap.. and most rarely. a condensor going bad... or the obvious reasons. shatty points.
 
A related side issue: DO NOT file modern ignition contact points.

The anti corrosion plating is so very thin that it will beremoved by a point file and doing so will require you to refile just about every time that you use it after the first time.

I did not know this, thanks for posting it. I have been guilty of sliding a file through the points in years past. The points on my '52 sidemount have been on about 5 years and I have never filed them...probably why they lasted so long...lol
