Ford 9N coil or magneto?

Hello,
I am working on a Ford 9N that won"t start and has no spark. It looks to me as if the tractor has a magneto. I am a IH guy and not used to these Fords. Does the Ford need to have a battery if it has a magneto, or does the wire going to the coil on the mag just for grounding it out to shut it off, like the Farmall H-4 mag?

ould be a mag, but relatively few are out there. If it is below water pump, just above crank pulley, then it will be a distributor. Coil & cap held on with flat spring clips (cap) and coil with a wire bale.
