800 ford starting

I have an 800 ford that had been running pretty good, although it was hard to start. Now I have noticed soot around an exhaust pipe leak, and it tries to start but doesn"t. Could the carburetor need adjusting or have the spark plugs fouled; I haven"t checked them yet?

Review Bruces "75 tips" in the Article section of this site.It's mainly geared for N owners but the fuel system and spark tips will get you started. HTH

Always check your spark First.
Verify that you have a bright bluish white spark that will jump at least 1/4". Short or yellowish spark will not do.
Requires no tools to pull a plug and check.
Only then go on to fuel.
