8N Front Mount clutch

How difficult, and what special tools do I need to R&R the clutch in an 8N? What problems am I likely to run in to? Should I combine clutch replacement with engine R&R (smokes)? I have the F04 manual. Any advice appreciated.

Not difficult in the overall scheme of it, but you have to split the tractor. If you need help on that just ask.

No special tools required other than the alignment tool to center the new clutch plate with the input shaft and pilot bearing. You can find them at most auto parts stores.

You don't have to RR the engine with a clutch, but you've already split it so you've done one hard part. Might check the transmission input seal though

Fairly easy to do but if you are ready to do the engine also it would save taking it apart twice. You should replace the trans input shaft seal while it is apart and you can also use the input shaft as an alignment tool for the clutch.

You probably know this but---get a couple of long bolts the same diameter and threads of the short ones that hold the two sections together-cut the heads off.screw them in on opposite sides before starting to roll the two sections back together This will help you guide the two sections back together..Really helpful even if you have help.If spline wants to be aggravating about lining up, turn the pto shaft a tad and then see if the halves will come on together. Don"t tighten and try to force them together..
