Hey guys. Can't find a good bike board but you always come through with the OT stuff.
Anyhoo, I have a few old Honda bikes and my 78 400A has a problem. When I open up the throttle it just bogs down. It runs well at slower speeds but if I try accelerate quickly it wants to shut down. I suspect a fuel delivery problem but don't know what to do about it. Any ideas?
Thanks

Remove carb disassemble as much as you can. Pay attention
how the air screws come out. Count the revolutions while
screwing them IN. So, if the air screws in one and half turns
IN then stops. That's where it NEEDS to be when assembly is
made. Just screw the air jet IN UNTILL LIGHTLY SEATED
then screw it out one and half turns. It's set !!!! Remove
everything you can. Being careful of the float bowl gasket as it
may break . No big deal as any Honda motorcycle shop can
get the gasket. After you remove the float bowl there's a main
jet and the float , needle valve. Carefully remove those parts.
Get a can of GOOD carb and choke cleaner. Spray everything.
Including the holes in the carb. They are vents. That must be
open and clean. Clean the needle and main jet. Small holes in
main jet must be clean and free of the smallest amount of dirt
crud. Install everything. Clean!!! May want to remove and drain
and flush the tank clean too. Install a fuel filter. New gas lines.
Go ride !!!! Oh clean your air filter too or replace!!!

When was the last time you cleaned or replaced the air filter??? If clogged it will cause that as will a choke not opening up all the way. Do not know that bike as such but have 2 CB360Ts plus a CL350 and a CB550 on the place and also a Yamaha 750 special

OK Thanks. I think the filter is OK. Will check the choke. This bike has only 5400 mi. on it but I will clean carbs. I had to do that on my CB 450 and took me 2 days. (failing eyesight).

If you take the carbs apart check the diaphragms with a bright light to see if you have a hole in them. I assume the carbs have diaphragms.

No never had had any problems out of it in that way. Carbs on the other hand I hate them

Tried all the above and problem remains. Will try hondatwins.net. Thanks
I am with old. Those carbs are a bugger.
