i bought this 47 8n front distributor the pto shaft was laying a cross the 3pt hitch. tried to install would go in all but last 1 to 2" wont go any farther tried several times. i have done this several times in past on other n,s any help will be apreciated .
 
Try loosening the bolts that hold the pump in. Don't take em out, just enough to get some wiggle room to slide the shaft in.

That don't work...check carefully for twisted splines. Don't force it with a BFH either or you will soon learn how to put in a new hydraulic pump.
 
Gene,look at the splines on the transmission end of the pto shaft for twisted splines that could be your problem.Also remove the pto shifter cover to make sure the shifter collar connector is lining up with the shaft.
 
use a straight edge to check them splines.

I told a guy to check splines one time as the shaft would not go in. he said they were fine. balled me out for sugesting it.

as it turned out theyy WERE twisted. had to see it with a framing square laid on them.. and that was the difference. it don't take much twist to stop them going thru a splined bushing..
