Burned tractor

Came across an ad in CL. 9N was in one of the wildfires we're having here in CO. Picture looked pretty toasted. Anybody have an idea if any of the parts might still be good? He's only asking $150

I quess it would be a matter of how much heat it took. You may be able to salvage some parts. I agree with others it's worth that in scrap. I have a '41 out back that was burned and I did manage to get some parts of it but the rest will be heading to the scrap yard when I can dig it out.

Once you get the tractor you can determine the approximate temperature obtained by observing the condition of various components as you remove them.

For example:

- Paper gaskets, rubber seals and o-rings are good indicators of temperature.

- Melted solder indicates temperature of at least 400 degrees.

- As previous posted; Oil and other lubes.

Think of it as an autopsy.

i had the same question last year i picked up a farmall that was in a wildfire to use for parts for mine, everything depends on how hot the tractor got, oil present, your good to go, mine got so hot it bowed the front axle although its mostly there less any aluminum parts its got little usable parts i have used a few tin parts and a non structural piece , but the spindles ect are not to be trusted ,since the heat of the fire has altered the molecular intregrity of the metal

i will add i picked up this tractor which th eman i knew had over 8,ooo dollars in for free he lost 8 tractors his outbuildings and 3 cars in the fire, insurance would not cover any of it
