(quoted from post at 16:58:47 06/24/13) how is a ford 600 differ from 8n

Larger and heavier with an over head 134 CID engine (more HP), live hydraulics standard, optional PS, optional live PTO, and better gearing options.

(quoted from post at 18:12:06 06/24/13) thanks for the reply how would you compair naa to 600

The 600 was available with many more useful options - most notably transmissions. The NAA was basically a one size fits all interim model that lasted a scant 3 years.

the 8N was the final refinement of Harry Ferguson's 1939 design. The NAA was Ford's first prototype after the break with Harry ferguson. The hundred series was an improvement over the NAA. And the hundred one series (601 ect) over that.

The real question is what are you looking to do with a tractor? And where can you find the best deal on a tractor that will do that.

I love my 8n, I've had it for over 50 years, however comparing an 8N to a 600 series tractor is like comparing etch a sketch to art.

Buy a 600 or 800.

An "etch a sketch to art"! Great line!

like TOH said, more tranny options, live pto option
also a more 'standard' remote hook-up plate
original NAA's also had a vane pump, which is usually changed to a piston pump- new external lines needed for that.
biggest flaw with my favorite NAA's is they have the
8N style rear axle with the eventual loose hubs issue.
And pretty much everything about the NAA rear lift is 'NAA only'

hold out for a hundred series
like the other poster said, almost the same price
don't rule out the 'blue' ones either
some decent deals out there if you look
then you have dual range, ps, etc,etc

an naa would be like a primitive 640.. difference would be inferior rear hub design.. and a stepchild nearly unsupported hyd cover arangement.

a naa will do the same work as a 640

looking at the entire 600 series. same as others said. options you might find are power steering and live pto, better trans gearing..e tc.

I have both an 8N and a 660. I like them both. But they are totally different. The 660's hydraulics are much superior. It also has more HP, but not that much. Also, my 660 has power steering - now that is a major difference.

My 8N has a couple of advantages, 1st is that it starts better. Second is it size. With a belly mower, it just a big Cub Cadet. I like that. It also uses less gas per hour.

All this said, both are capable tractors. I use them both equally. If I had to pick between them, the 660 wins, mostly because of the power steering.
