OT Losening a rope knot

How do I get the knot outta a 1 1/4 inch synthetic rope..I"ve read e-how internet advice to work at it with an ice pic or plyers, but there must be some other tricks, like using some lubricant or ??? to make it easier to loosen..it"s really jammed tight from pulling over a tree I cut down..

Just like the instruction sheets in stuff I buy; "simply reverse the steps of installation procedure"..

Clamp one leg of the knot in a vice and drive a screw driver into the knot and use vice grips and screw diver to work it loose.

Hey Don,

You be needin' a marlinspike narr!

Which is a tapered metal or bone which has a narrow point to get into knots and such.

If you don't have access to such a critter you could make a good one out of a 16d framing nail.

Just taper it on your bench grinder to a kinda sharp point and work it into the knot to free one of the loops.

When is a knot not a knot? When it is a hitch. Pick up a Boy Scout Hand Book and study the section on knots. A Timber hitch or a Clove hitch will come loose where a knot will not. Ed

Yes, or just whip out the pocket knife a dump a couple of feet of rope! How much time do you devote to a bad knot?
