Starter Smokeing

I just finished switching my Sq coil over to a round coil. Trying to get the 8n started when I noticed smoke from the starter. Any idea what I did wrong?

Apparently you have over heated it.

You are aware that a cranking motor is an intermittant duty motor?

You should never crank the engine for more than 20 seconds or so before allowing the starter motor to cool. Doing so will overheat the windings, causing failure if done excessively.

to go along with what dean said. make sure that your solenoid is not sticking and making the starter stay engaged after startup.
