Newby needs advice 8N has a LOT of blowby

testcase

New User
Just aquired an 8N last winter. Went to look at it, ran fine.

Started it the other day and now I have lots of white smoke. I mean lots out the breather cap
Tractor seems to run OK and has good oil pressure

Drained the oil, found these chunks. They will stick to a magnet"

Biggest pieces about the size of a dime and just almost exactly as thick. Slightly curved

Seem to wide to be a ring, to thin and not alum. so probably not a piston

Any ideas?

Yes, as others have said....repairable & can be done in frame.

That being said......

Pay attention to how it's done because chances are you'll be doing one or more in the future.

In other words, if it drops one, what do you think the odds are that the other 3 are going to stay in place?

if you comp test it.. one jug will likelt be very, very low. when you pull the head.. should be easy to see which one got snatched down..

Repair can be done in frame, but I like having the engine on a stand that I can rotate to work on the bottom half. Not much more effort to pull the engine and it is a lot easier to remove and install the pan.
