New armature in generator 3 wire 6v s/m. What should my mul-meter reading be at my two wire amp meter? My gauge and mul-meter both jump around when hooked up to the 2 amp gauge wires.

hat is s/m? No reason to measure across an ammeter.....it should read near zero, as it it a shunt.

So if it is 0, does it mean it is charging? If battery is low does it move to + and - if not charging? or does the v-reg meter the electricity to the sys and keeps the battery, plugs and lights from draining the battery? Maybe I will just put a temp gauge in instead of a amp gauge I understand it and it would be more useful to me as it would be obvious the elec sys was not working when the lights went out.s/m side mount

eople wire ammeters differently, BUT if it is wired as it left the factory, it simply shows whether current is going into the battery (charging) or exiting the battery (draining). + is charging, - is draining. Zero means neutral, or gen/reg is exactly offsetting any usage (drain).

Ok. I thought it would show as charging, and read 6V on my multimeter. I will button her up and see what happens. Thanks again.

you need to set down and read the book about your meter and how to take measurements.

jmor said if you take your VOm and read across an ammeter it should read about 0 . as jmor said. the ammeter is a shunt voltmeter.

to use your vom.. take a reading from battery hot to ground. see what she makes when off and when running at high idle.

True If you don't connect the meter correctly you can and will fry it.

For DC (Direct Current) what our tractors are.
In very simple terms, Volts can be measured while connecting the meter in parallel to the circuit being measured and you don't need to break the circuit to measure it.

Amps usually require the meter to be placed in series with the circuit being measured. So you need to remove a wire and place the meter in place of the wire. Kinda like having the current flow through the meter.

AC (Alternating current) whole different animal and its what you plug your battery charger into.
