2N Stumped- Suddenly quit

Need help with a 2N that suddenly quit. It jump starts and runs fine but won't start on its own. Battery is now fully charged and tests like new but it still won't start unless I jump it. Any ideas?

Clean tight and bright. As in all battery and ground connections need to be good and clean and shiny and tight. When you jump it you add more volts so a bad connection some place will work some times

Checked battery with a specific gravity tester and verified with an electronic charge indicator built into my charger. I jumped it from my truck directly to the tractor battery.

Ignition switch is bad and has resistance. Causes no spark when voltage drops from cranking the starter. Try a new ignition switch.

" I jumped it from my truck directly to the tractor battery. "

That's a very good way to blow up a battery.

See tip # 43.

If the tractor starts by jumping it per tip 43, then test the cut out.

If it still doesn't start after cleaning all connections, cables and grounds connections, starter to clutch housing ect.Take your battery to a parts house and have it load tested.

kurt.......you ask......."what is the cutout?".....NO it is NOT the ignition switch. The original 6-volt 2N had a 2-terminal roundcan "cutout" on the side of the steering column underneath the battery that disconnected the battery from the 1-terminal 6-volt genny. ...otherwize... yer battery would discharge thru the coils of the genny. Henceforth the name "cutout". Simple, eh?

Would it surprize you to learn that yer 12V alternator has an internal solid state "cutout" to disconnect the alternator from the battery so it don't discharge. Isn't that amazing??? ........respectfully, Dell, a 12V advocate for the right reasons who knows 8-ways to convert and they all work the first time

put a volt meter across the battery terminals... attempt to crank. what's meter say when holding in crank position?

sounds like some bad connections then.

if starter works fine with a jump.. but notheing on battery and volts don't drop. lookk at manual starter switch and wire connections.. posts..
