Update on the parts tractor

About a month ago I posted about a nice surprise when I found
the 2N I bought for parts actually rolled over with a hand crank.
Here's the original post if wanted: YT Post
I soaked the cylinders in ATF/Acetone, changed the plugs, cleaned
the points and then found out the starter was froze up.
I just got around to taking the starter off and getting a rebuilt
spare out and putting it on it. (separate post on that)
I hooked my jumper pack to the starter and frame and when I
turned the pack on the engine rolled over fine.
So I ran a jumper to the coil from the jumper pack, gave
it a short blast of ether and rolled it over. It fired and ran as long
as a shot of ether lasts. Shut the booster pack off and left it at that.
It smoked pretty badly, but since I soaked the cylinders, I couldn't
tell how much was that and how much is oil being burnt, etc.
Guess it really doesn't matter, it was a parts tractor! :)
Now I'm mulling over the idea of keeping a spare motor to swap
in while doing rebuilds to prevent down time.
Seems like swapping them twice is a lot of extra work though.

Swapping engines back and forth is to much work. What you need
is a spare Tractor. That's the way to go. It's been said here many of
times you need a tractor for every implement you have. Swapping
implements around is hard work too. I like that idea. Wouldn't it be
great to just be able to jump on what tractor that had the
implement you needed and just go to work? Instead of swapping
them around. I, myself, am a long way from that point.

Sometimes you get lucky. I got 2 8Ns this weekend for parts that were far more solid than the ones I was going to fix,and both 12 volt, side distibutor, non leaky tractors. I'm almost betting that one or both will run and run well with the usual carb clean/ignition tune up.

(quoted from post at 14:09:03 06/04/13) sounds like your parts tractor is a running spare!
Yes sir! And I'm quite surprised.
It was obviously stored outdoors, it's rusty and the tires were junk.
But the fenders were not dented or rusted through in any spot,
and had NO extra holes. Not even for a light.
Those fenders, the Sherman and a few other parts made me dig
into the pocket and shell out $200 for it.
No idea on the trans, rear end, etc. yet.
But to find out the motor runs too? BONUS! :)

I've had that idea for a long time AND one key fits all. Problem: my barn is too small at 48x48. Also, I have to move 2 or 3 to get to the one I want to use. So, only the loader tractor and the mower tractor stay attached to implements. Others have to use old method.
Now a tool shed with about 12 individual garage doors would work. Then I would only have to remember what is behind each door and wich opener to use. LOL
