No spark at the plugs

Does anyone know what the voltage should be at the coil after passing through the resistor. The tractor has been converted to a 12 volt system and when I measure the voltage at the coil its only showing less than one volt. Any Info would be appreciated.

I have 12 volt everything when I did the conversion. It never dawned on me that the resister was not to be used. It was included in the kit. I'll eliminate the resistor and see what happens. It was running with the resistor in place, but maybe not well.
Thanks.

It depends on whether the points are open or closed.
If they are open it will read battery voltage. 12V.
Because the resistor won't drop any voltage without current flow.
What model tractor are you working on?
The front mount distributors are wired differently than a side mount.
1V is too low in either case and the resistor isn't the problem.

If your coil came with the kit that also had the resistor, it may need the resistor if the coil is less than 3 ohms for 12V system.

Check your coil's resistance and if its less than 3 ohms, use that resistor which should make the total resistance close to 3 ohms.

Otherwise if you have a true 12V coil, then great!, no resistor needed.

Others may chime in and second that.

Greg

Front mount or side mount distributor the fix can be different and if done wrong may cost you a new coil if it is the front mount. Most no spark problems is bad dirty points. Many times you can clean them up and work just fine
