Early model 8N steering correction

Forum Members,

Have been having trouble with the early production 8N steering!! When steering, the left side is very responsive, but the right seems to have too much play. Looked at the manual and wonder if I could adjust only the right side by turning the four bolted housing clockwise to remove the excess play? Is there something missing doing it this way? Any help is appreciated.

I have the same problem with my '48 8N.

I was told that only the left side could be turned and that mine hadn't been touched. Also, could only turn it a quarter turn. If it needed turned more it was rebuild time or upgrade to newer steering box.

My steering has about 5-6 inches of play at the steering wheel. The left side seems tight but the right side is loose.

I see some bushings are still available on this site or nnalert's site. Which ones will fix our problems?

I'd like to keep the original steering box.

Thanks.

Bob,
According to the manual both sides may be adjusted. The left side had to be turned counterclockwise to tighten and the right clockwise to tighten. Will attempt to tighten the right side today (Sunday) and see what happens. I want to be as least invasive as possible. Will let you know what happens.
