I have a Sherman tranny and am wondering if I put it in my 52 8N and the Sherman is shifted into low gear, will it also slow the PTO speed?

I also have recently acquired a 54 NAA. The rear dipstick (transmission) has a tube about 1 1/2 inches long that the dipstick passes through before it enters the side of the transmission. This tube in effect raises the stick the corresponding 1 1/2". The dipstick is identical to the one my 8n has. The NAA has a loader on it with the pump mounted up front. The three point lift operates as it should.

What would be the function/purpose of the tube? Being able to hold more oil?
Thanks for your help. Nilram

I assume you have a sherman combo? If so than the lower range will also slow your pto speed.
I'm not sure about your other question? Trans or Hyd side cover???

The sherman transmission is mounted in front of the single transmissioin input shaft and does affect PTO shaft speed.

I have 51 and 52 8Ns both with Sherman combination transissions. I use the 51 to open areas with a 5' cutter before sawitching off to something larger. I leave the Sherman in underdrive 90+% of the time as I find yhe reduced ground speed and increased PTO torque beneficial.

The 52 mounts a carry all and serves as my "Quad." It occassionally sees overdrive.

That was one of the draw backs of the Sherman Transmission it does effect the PTO speed and that can cause problems with some equipment
