12v conversion

I have a 1948 ford 8n and I'm doing a complete restoration for a friend and he wanted a 12v conversion done to it. does anyone have a wiring diagram better than what came with the kit? thanks in advance

iowaboy........many "bubba" conversions use an el-cheapo 12-to-6V converting resistor in series (like flashlite batterys) with the MANDATORY "infamous ballast resistor" on the back side of yer instrument panel underneath the ammeter. Remember, the 8N came from the factory 6-volt positive (+) ground and alternators must have the MANDATORY 12V-negative (-) ground ...or... you will let the smoke out of the alternator wires.

I recommend the modern 12V squarecan ignition coil which still needs the "infamous ballast resistor. Unfortunately, they cost $$$ while yer 12-to-6V converting resistor to use with the original 6-volt squarecan coil is CHEAP. Still needs the MANDATORY ballast resistor. ........Dell, a 12V advocate for the right reasons

same basic wireing works.

wire from charge stud to the wire that came from the old vregs bat terminal.

if it is a 3 wire job, jump the charge stud to the #2 spade terminal.

retask the field wire that went from the old vreg to the genny, and plug it to the #1 spade terminal at the alt side. unde rthe dash.. take that spare wire and hook it thru a 168 or 194 lamp and then to the switched side of the ignition key. key on = lamp. onc estarted and revved to over 400 rpm.. lamp should go out and ammeter show charge.

remember she will be neg ground and to replace headlamps.

do either get the 12v 2.5ohm coil and run it with the oem ballast resistor or get the add on 8ne10306 converting resistor and add it inline from the ballast resistor to the coil.

good time to clean up the battery terminal conenctions and ground strap connection point.

there bunch of website...
i think Soundguy have one too, most of them work
great.. i use them all the time, all you need is
used alt from auto recycle and recycle battery
from the same place and 1950 or 60 gm alt bracket
work fine to make alternator work ... then i have
paint or power coated it what they want.. even
chrome
