41 9-n dog legs

I have a 1941 9-n,it is in need of dog legs for the hood.they don't make reproduction ones for the 9-n.the ones on my tractor now are very beat up.a previous owner drilled a hole near the bottom of each one and put a large bolt on each side to hold the bottom of the grille in.my question is what held the Bottom of the grille in originally as the owners manual doesn't show and I have never been around one that is original? Thanks in advance.

later ones had a hole.. earlier ones had a tabbed/hole inside/ underside of leg.
