Problem running?

I have a 1941 9N that has been 12v conversion. put in new repair kit for carb and noticed that the idle port fitting was torn to shreds. Looks like some one tried take it out and damaged the brass fitting. Tractor ran for awhile and started to sputter and die. when I choked it seemed to run fine and then sputter. How do I fix the fitting? Do I need new carb. Oh yeah, it started to backfire too. I think that would be points.

Idle port fitting??? I"m not clear on what you are talking about.........Check for good strong blue spark-yellow won"t get it..If weak spark then points are the first place to look..Very likely points are your problem.

About 95% of carb problems are in fact spark problems. Check your spark and make sure it is a good blue white and will jump a 1/4 inch gap or more at all 4 plug wires. You points may have slipped which is common

Did your tractor have these problems before you put the kit in the carb?
I agree that most perceived carb problems may be spark, but if it didn't have
these symptoms before you worked on the carb, then it's probably the carb.
I am assuming you are talking about the brass jet in the carb.
If it's messed up it can be very hard to get out, but doesn't necessarily mean
a new carb.
That goes back to my original question though. If it didn't have these
problems before, then that is not the problem now.

The tractor was running like that before repair kit. The reason for repair kit was my seat and needle where bad. With the brass idle jet being messed up, how can I adjust idle if this is messed up?

ave, the Idle Adjust needle is separate and apart from the Idle jet. Two separate parts that do NOT come in contact with one another. Now,.....what is it that you are trying to describe?
