Ok, found a 851 in the local paper. New tires (assume only rear). $3650 or $3950 w/trip bucket loader.

If anyone knows what these are pulling for a price for an average condition tractor please let me know. I haven"t seen it. I know they are around 46 hp though. Would my dearborn snowplow fit this tractor or were they a little longer than the N series?

The 851 is a good bit longer then the 8N is. As for price if the rear tires are new or close then figure that is $1000 or very close. Back in the 80s we got our 841 and payed $3250 for it with a heavy duty loader and a 2 bottom plow ad the rear tires where around 90% but it also had a Sherman Combo

I see that the 851 does not have live hyd. In reality I would only be adding hp and another gear. To me that is not worth chasing. I don't need the extra hp or gear as the N I have runs great (I had the motor rebuilt in '07) and is a worker. Thanks for the info old but I am going to pass but if it were an 861 with live hydraulics I would probably look into it more. Maybe not though as I am so used to not having live hyd. and know how to "work it" anyway.

851 has live HYDS but not live PTO. HP is around 45hp so a good bit bigger then the 8N plus low gear is a lot slower then 1st in the 8N so you can just get by running a tiller with one. The 851 has many improvements over the 8N that it is not funny. A lot bigger engine better ignition system heavier built all around and hands down a far better machine

The 851 does have live hydraulics. It does not have live PTO.
An 861 would have live PTO also. The 8N has neither.
Great improvement over the 8N, possibly including power steering.
I would not pay that much for one in my part of the country though.

i am owner of one those great tractor.. but my 851-d
tell u right off really nice almost showroom type between 7,000 to 9,000..
a working type $395.00 to $5,000

If you are looking to make a step up from an 8N make it a big step and find a 3000 or 3600.
Live hydraulics, live PTO, tiller capable 8 speed tranny, flow control, differential lock, remote hydraulics, 37 hp, gas or diesel, more reliable and more longevity.
Very familiar to an N owner, easy to work on, excellent new and used parts availability.
All your N implements will fit it.
Think of one as an N to the Nth degree.
You will never look back.
Photo is just one I found on google.
