Richard, Quite a few years ago, I bought a 51 8N that had been sitting for several years, but was pretty complete. I actually planned to buy it for a parts tractor for my other 8N, but when I finally got it home, I decided it was to complete to part out, and if I could get it running, I would use it while restoring my other 8N. After all the needed things like plugs, oil change etc. It started and ran pretty well. It smoked ALLOT, but kept on running. I used it for at least 16 years that way, and finally it just got so tired it wouldn"t start anymore. I rebuilt the engine and have done allot of other things just to keep it in good shape for many years to come, but I guess what I"m trying to say is, my old 8N was better than a Timex. It took quite a licking, but kept on ticking and ticking, way after it should have quit. A pretty reliable machine as long as you don"t abuse them too much.
Others might have worse stories, but I can"t complain one bit about my 8N. Now if I could just get the time to finish the sheetmetal, I could use the old girl again. Happy tractoring!!!
